Shanghai Disneyland is expanding with a new attraction

On July 11, it was learned from the official website of the Shanghai Construction Engineering Transaction Service Center that Shanghai International Theme Park Co., Ltd. started the public bidding for the construction project of the "Aite" project. The "Aite" project is located in the A-1 plot of Chuansha New Town, Pudong New District, with a building land area of approximately 21,306.36 square meters (based on actual measurement), a total construction area of approximately 6,227.86 square meters, and a building height controlled below 24 meters.

According to the public information, the "Aite" project is an expansion project of the Disney resort, with a brand-new theme. The main buildings and facilities are amusement projects, including six building units and site landscape development work. The total investment of the project is 2.459 billion yuan.

Shanghai Disney Resort previously announced that it had begun the preliminary construction preparations for a new attraction within Shanghai Disneyland, an independent themed attraction adjacent to the "Zootopia" themed area.

The planning disclosure shows:

Construction project location: Within the A-1 plot of the resort core area (boundary: East to the A-1 plot logistics area, West to the A-1 plot Zootopia area, North to the A-1 plot logistics area, South to the A-1 plot Treasure Cove area).

Construction land area: Project base 21,306.36 square meters (located within the A-1 plot, the total land area of the A-1 plot is 910,964.0 square meters).

Construction scale: Total construction area of approximately 6,227.86 square meters, with 6 buildings, all above ground, no underground buildings.

In addition, according to the previously announced winning bid announcement, the manufacturer of the riding equipment has been confirmed to be Vekoma, a roller coaster manufacturer from the Netherlands. Shanghai Disneyland's TRON Lightcycle Power Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, as well as Hong Kong Disneyland's Grizzly Gulch, are all from this manufacturer.

Since its opening in June 2016, Shanghai Disney Resort has continued to expand, including two new themed areas in Shanghai Disneyland: the "Disney Pixar Toy Story" themed area, which opened to visitors in April 2018, and the "Zootopia" themed area, which grandly opened in December 2023. In addition, the third Disney themed hotel in Shanghai Disney Resort broke ground in August 2023, and the new themed hotel will be located by Wishing Star Lake.

When releasing the new attraction in March, Shanghai Disney stated that these latest expansion projects reflect Shanghai Disney Resort's commitment to providing new experiences for visitors from all over the world and creating a tourist destination suitable for multi-day trips. However, Shanghai Disney has not yet disclosed any other information about the new "Aite" attraction.

The third Disney themed hotel in Shanghai Disney Resort broke ground in August 2023. Currently, the development project management team has completed the pile foundation work for the hotel, laying an important foundation for the formal launch of the main project in the next stage.

This new themed hotel with 400 rooms will be located by Wishing Star Lake and will provide visitors with a wider range of accommodation options upon completion.

Official data shows that as of December 20, 2023, Shanghai Disneyland Park received over 13 million visitors in 2023, less than a year, setting a new record for visitor numbers since its opening. Driven by Shanghai Disneyland, Shanghai International Tourism Resort, with the park as its core area, also set a record for visitor numbers in 2023—the total annual visitor traffic for the entire Shanghai International Tourism Resort, including Shanghai Disney Resort, Bicester Shanghai Village, and the ecological park, reached 25.627 million.
