On March 25, 2024, the China Bidding and Tendering Public Service Platform released the "Announcement of Bid Winners for the Feasibility Study Report Compilation Service Procurement (tentative name) of the Puy du Fou Yunnan Dali International Resort Project", Shenzhen Hanfangyuan Architectural Design Consulting Co., Ltd. and Hualan Design (Group) Co., Ltd. jointly won the bid, with a winning bid amount of 1.795 million yuan.

According to the bidding announcement, the scope of the feasibility study report compilation includes the international performing arts theme park project, the theme hotel and international hotel project, the Dali City Shangguan area cultural tourism facilities comprehensive improvement and transformation project, and all sub-projects involved. It is required to complete the relevant compilation announcement within 30 calendar days from the date of contract signing.

Puy du Fou has signed multiple projects in China

According to the WeChat official account "FranceConsulatCanton" of the French Consulate General in Guangzhou, on February 6, 2024, Mr. Forissier, Consul General of France in Guangzhou, attended the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation between Xiamen Municipal Government and the French Puy du Fou international performing arts project. Puy du Fou will cooperate with the Xiamen Municipal Government and Xiamen Huili District to develop the "Maritime World" city center project (Xiamen SAGA). This project will use Puy du Fou's unique artistic techniques to create a super-immersive performing arts complex integrating Minnan historical culture and French proprietary technologies.

Currently, Puy du Fou has multiple projects underway, including Shanghai, Dali, and Hangzhou, and Xiamen will be its latest project.

Hangzhou Project: According to "Qianjiang Evening News", on February 28, 2024, Nicolas de Villiers, Geoffroy Lade, CEO of Puy du Fou Group Asia, and others went to investigate the beautiful scenery of Meicheng Town and the Sanjiangkou area in Jiande, Hangzhou. Through on-site investigation, the investigation team believes that Jiande is rich in water resources and has good development prospects and potential. The investigation team will continue in-depth research to find opportunities for cooperation. On March 22 last year, at the Hangzhou Tourism Industry High-Quality Development Conference, Puy du Fou Group signed a project contract with a total investment of 5 billion yuan in Hangzhou, and will build a new theme park in Hangzhou, located in the area along the three rivers and two banks.

Shanghai Project: According to the WeChat official account "Puy du Fou", on March 18, 2024, Puy du Fou and Jinjiang Tourism successfully reached a strategic cooperation agreement in Shanghai. Jinjiang International Group is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Shanghai State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and one of the largest comprehensive hotel and tourism groups in China. In the first half of 2024, the highly anticipated "SAGA City of Light" project, which is positioned as the world's first "offline real-scene movie" blockbuster, will grandly open at No. 88 Caobao Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai. Puy du Fou Asia has joined hands with Jinjiang Tourism this time to vigorously promote the future channel sales of the SAGA City of Light project, hoping to give full play to the advantages of both parties and share resources through in-depth cooperation with Jinjiang Tourism, providing a brand-new cultural tourism experience for more consumers.

The Puy du Fou Dali project may open in 2026

On October 9, 2021, the Yunnan Provincial Major Cultural Tourism Project with Foreign Investment—the "Puy du Fou Yunnan Dali International Resort Project" held a signing ceremony in Kunming, and the Dali Prefecture People's Government and Puy du Fou Asia officially signed the "Investment Agreement for the French Puy du Fou Dali International Resort Project".

This project will introduce the brand, management, and operation model of the world's number one performing arts theme park, relying on and integrating the superior ecological environment and tourism resources of Yunnan Dali, and taking the theme of the integration of Chinese history and culture and ethnic groups, planning and constructing a comprehensive performing arts theme park, including introducing and constructing well-known hotels, theme villages, and supporting world-class brand commercial facilities. This project is the first comprehensive theme park that Puy du Fou has landed in Asia.

In January 2022, in the Dali Radio and Television Station's program "Governmental and Business Style Hotline Echo Wall", a netizen left a message asking about the progress of the Puy du Fou Yunnan Dali International Resort Project, and the Dali Prefecture Development and Reform Commission replied:

Currently, the project has completed CAD surveying and mapping of the terrain and landforms, initiated the "three surveys" of land, the fixation of ground structures, the design of surrounding traffic supporting facilities, and archaeological exploration, and is in the process of applying for land use. The owner has entrusted a third party to carry out project report compilation and design work. All parties are actively promoting it.

According to the established plan, in 2022, the project approval and land acquisition will be completed, and the construction of supporting infrastructure will be started. The theme park is expected to officially start construction at the beginning of 2023, be completed by the end of 2025, and put into trial operation.

On September 8, 2022, the Dali Prefecture Transportation Bureau issued an announcement for bidding for surveying and design, mainly involving the Dali City Shangguan area road construction project and the relocation project of the Duolang interchange of the G5611 Dali Expressway. The original document of the announcement mentioned that the Shangguan area road construction project involves a total of 10 roads, all of which are built according to the fourth-level highway standard, with a total route length of about 22.544 kilometers and a total investment of 238,263,757 yuan. In the project overview section, Puy du Fou theme park-related content appeared in many places, which can be said that this road project mainly serves the Puy du Fou theme park.

After the announcement of the bidding for surveying and design was issued, neither the road construction project nor the Puy du Fou theme park has made any further progress, and some media and the public have doubts about whether the project can be landed. In June 2023, Geoffroy LADET, CEO of Puy du Fou Asia, revealed in an interview with the media that the theme park project in Yunnan is still in the early stages of project license application and site selection, hoping that the first phase of the project can be opened in 2026 or 2027, first providing a one-day tour experience.

The 2024 Dali Prefecture People's Government Work Report proposed: "Accelerate the promotion of foreign investment projects such as Diageo, Puy du Fou, Fengshu Logistics, and Meidong Culture and Tourism." This shows that the Puy du Fou Yunnan Dali International Resort Project has been progressing. After the completion of the feasibility study report compilation, the project will enter the preliminary design and budget approval stage. If the progress is smooth, it is still possible to partially open by the end of 2026.

The Puy du Fou Yunnan Dali International Resort Project is located in Ganhaizi Natural Village, Haichaoh River Committee, Shangguan Town, Dali City. The total construction land area is 1,313,333 m² (1,970 mu), and the total construction area is 486,555 m². The main construction content includes a performing arts theme park, theme hotels, bird conservation and training centers, etc. Among them, the theme park has a land area of about 908 mu, with a total investment of about 3.5 billion yuan. It will feature performances, highlighting historical and cultural performances, as well as fireworks and flame performances.
