(September 14, Shanghai) On September 14, Shanghai LEGOLAND® Resort, an international IP theme park under Merlin Entertainments, a world-renowned entertainment attraction operator, made its debut at the 35th Shanghai Tourism Festival, announcing its grand opening in 2025. At the opening ceremony, the first LEGOLAND-themed float, meticulously crafted by the Merlin Magic Making team, made a dazzling appearance as the lead vehicle in the float parade. The float was built from LEGO® bricks magnified 25 times, perfectly showcasing the imaginative world of Shanghai LEGOLAND. Joining the float were four iconic LEGO LEGOLAND characters, 15 child dancers, and 35 professional dancers, who brought a vibrant and imaginative performance to the audience with their overflowing enthusiasm, causing a sensation throughout the city.

Shanghai LEGOLAND Float Appears at Shanghai Tourism Festival

John Ussher, Senior Development Managing Director of LEGOLAND, said: “This is Shanghai LEGOLAND’s first participation in the Shanghai Tourism Festival, and we are honored to be the lead float in the parade. Thanks to the support of the local government and our partners, we are able to bring the popular and beloved LEGOLAND brand to China. We believe that after opening next year, Shanghai LEGOLAND Resort will enrich the local tourism industry and provide more diverse entertainment options for tourists in the Yangtze River Delta region.”

Exclusive LEGOLAND Characters Make Their Public Debut at Shanghai LEGOLAND Resort, Sparking Endless Imagination

As the lead float in this year's Shanghai Tourism Festival, the Shanghai LEGOLAND Imagination Express was built from LEGO bricks magnified 25 times. The Merlin Magic Making team ingeniously integrated oriental elements such as the first Monkey Kid themed experience and the unique boat tour of Shanghai LEGOLAND, along with iconic elements of popular attractions like the Dragon Coaster, Driving School, and LEGO City Airport, unleashing boundless creativity and imagination. At the same time, Dada, a newly created LEGO character for Shanghai LEGOLAND, made its public debut aboard the “Shanghai LEGOLAND Imagination Express.” Dada, along with classic LEGO characters Jester, Mike, and Amy, showcased a vibrant spirit of playful exploration, adding more surprises to Shanghai LEGOLAND’s appearance at the festival. Through this journey filled with endless possibilities, the audience got a sneak peek at the exciting experiences that await them when Shanghai LEGOLAND opens next year.

Dada, Shanghai LEGOLAND’s Newly Created LEGO Character, Makes Debut at Shanghai Tourism Festival

At the head of the float stands Sun Wukong, the character from LEGO Monkie Kid, LEGO’s first popular IP inspired by traditional Chinese stories. This character will also appear in the world’s first “Monkie Kid” themed area at Shanghai LEGOLAND after its opening, conveying courage and friendship and inspiring children’s imagination and creativity. The tail of the float is adorned with palm trees, representative elements of the Shanghai LEGOLAND Hotel, creating a relaxed and enjoyable vacation atmosphere. In addition, the boat device on the float cleverly interprets the unique boat tour experience of Shanghai LEGOLAND’s Jiangnan water town features, allowing the audience to experience the unique Jiangnan charm and the clever fusion of the park experience in advance.

At the opening parade, dancers in colorful costumes danced to a remixed version of the popular parade music “What If” from California LEGOLAND, moving rhythmically with the iconic LEGO characters and extending a warm invitation to the public. This visual and auditory feast immersed the audience in a park atmosphere full of surprises and imagination. In addition, during this year’s Shanghai Tourism Festival, the Shanghai LEGOLAND Imagination Express will also appear in various mainstream business districts across the city, showcasing the park’s unique design elements and iconic LEGO characters, igniting anticipation for the grand opening in 2025.
