With the fierce competition in the children's and parent-child industries and severe product homogenization, we need new, more diverse business formats that cover a wider range of age groups. After all, a family entertainment center requires not just one or two highlights, but a complete ecosystem. In this issue, the author will share a new business case study focusing on indoor adventure: Play: CBUS Indoor Sports Adventure Park located in Ohio, USA.
Outdoor Adventure
Indoor Adventure Park Converted from a Boat Warehouse

After accompanying his daughter to an outdoor ropes course in New York, Play: CBUS founder Greg suddenly had the initial inspiration: Could the fun of the outdoors be brought indoors, where it's less restricted by weather and environment? This idea led to the birth of the first store, Play: CLE.
In December 2017, Play: CLE opened to the public – it's an indoor adventure park converted from a 2300㎡ boat storage warehouse, positioned as an indoor activity and entertainment center suitable for all ages. It retained the warehouse's original industrial rugged style, with only minimal finishing decorations and partial construction leveraging the high ceiling conditions, leaving most of the space for various adventure attractions. The striking blue and orange color scheme creates a youthful, brand-specific color system.

This bold attempt was well-received by local players, especially young people and families; three years later, in November 2020, Play: CBUS opened in Columbus as the second branch, after product evolution and brand restructuring.

Diversified Product Combinations
7 Major Sports Modules Create Rich Experiences

Play: CBUS's attractions emphasize
The ropes course is two stories high, featuring over 100 different rope climbing experiences across three different height levels; the lowest rope obstacle adventure is specifically designed for little adventurers aged 3-6, while the mid-level and high-level rope obstacles offer progressively challenging climbing heights and difficulties.

The climbing area boasts countless fun climbing experiences covering various difficulties and themed elements. Whether you're a professional climber, a thrill-seeking tourist, a player just looking to challenge your physical limits, or a young couple wanting interactive fun, you can find a climbing style that suits you. All climbing walls are equipped with TruBlue auto belay devices to help climbers descend safely and under control.

The bouldering wall area is divided into two different difficulties: beginner and intermediate, with difficulty set according to the wall's height. Thick airbags provide ample landing cushioning; climbers do not need to wear harnesses, and when they reach their goal or their limit, they can let go and experience the thrill of freefall.

AR climbing uses augmented reality technology based on bouldering walls to create a brand new fun climbing experience; over 12 unique game modules offer different difficulty levels suitable for various age groups, as well as different challenge modes like single-player climbing or team vs. team.

In addition to the various types of climbing experiences mentioned above, Play: CBUS also features North America's first indoor Via Ferrata (a climbing method that uses iron cables, metal footrests, and even ladders along the route to ensure safety). This area consists of 2 challenging walls, including vertical and horizontal traverses, and connects to the ropes course area. It is also currently the largest indoor Via Ferrata project of its kind in the United States.

The Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course offers varying elements, challenging brain agility, upper body strength, balance, reaction speed, explosive power, and endurance. Players can run through all the different paths in their own way, experiencing the thrill of a full-body workout.

And the zip line provides a bird's-eye view—soar over all the facilities on the zip line, experience an adrenaline rush in the air, and don't forget to wave to your friends and family!

To better provide a one-stop experience, beyond the main play areas, Play: CBUS has set up a full-service restaurant and bar as complementary facilities, offering various meals, drinks, and dining/lounge areas.
Flexible Operating Strategies
Balancing Daily Operations and Offering Group Package Services

As an indoor adventure sports park for all ages, Play: CBUS's All-Adventure Pass (basic unlimited play ticket) costs $44.95 (for ages 7 and up), and the Junior Adventure Pass for ages 6 and under is $24.95; various promotional activities are available throughout the year for different seasons and specific holidays.
However, most sports and entertainment centers must face the challenge of addressing
Firstly, for daily operations, the park opens Mondays and Tuesdays as booking slots for private, corporate, school, and team-building events; a half-price discount is offered on Wednesdays, when entertainment activities are typically slowest; and Thursdays are designated as exclusive sessions for players aged 21 and over, providing a dedicated time slot for younger adults who prefer not to exercise alongside younger children. Additionally, on Thursdays, Epic or Legendary package bookings more suitable for young adults are offered, with a $100 discount.

Secondly, Play: CBUS offers customized package services for group events, including: adult and children's birthday parties, youth graduation ceremonies and proms, corporate team building, and full-venue bookings for groups of 10 or more; it also provides three different ways for various charitable organizations and non-profits to host fundraising events... All these customized events are guaranteed to take place in a secure environment with staff supervision; similarly, event theme customizations such as comic art, bounce houses, laser tag, etc., are also supported by a strong planning and operations team.

Back in China, some brands focusing on sports and entertainment have begun to take root in first-tier cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou. As a new attempt, most of them match a core light sports theme experience with several entertainment and leisure themes, creating a "cocktail" formula that better suits domestic consumer groups.
As Maike Children, a brand that creates venue content led by children, we focus on the group that lacks the most activity and social venues in contemporary Chinese cities—teenagers. We spent a whole year developing and refining a complete set of original trendy and sporty products that integrate sports, technology, competition, entertainment, music sensory experience, and social interaction; Oxygen Tribe is widely applicable to the updating and content creation of commercial and other urban existing spaces. While having its own IP, it also reserves interfaces for other IP packaging.
