In recent years, digital technology has not only been used in content creation but also applied in multiple dimensions of cultural tourism, such as interaction, services, and promotion. With the support of digital technology, cultural tourism management in many scenic spots has developed content including online travel booking and digital guiding services, improving the management efficiency of the tourism industry, enhancing convenience for visitors, reducing manual operations, lowering error rates, and improving service quality and response speed. It can be seen that the popularization of digital technology is pushing the cultural tourism industry towards a more intelligent, personalized, and sustainable direction.

Scenic Spot Cultural Tourism + Digital Management

01 Jiuzhaigou Smart Scenic Area

Jiuzhaigou began its "Digital Jiuzhai" construction in 2003 and became the first smart scenic area in China by 2010. Its digitalization and smartization level has always been at the forefront nationwide, making it a representative of smart scenic area construction in China. Smartization and the integration of culture and tourism are two essential conditions for a smart cultural tourism scenic area. In the process of building a smart cultural tourism scenic area, Jiuzhaigou went through two stages: first, transitioning from a traditional scenic area to a smart scenic area, and then fully strengthening the exploration and application of cultural resources before entering the smart cultural tourism scenic area phase.

Jiuzhaigou's smart management primarily includes the management of people within the scenic area, vehicle management within the scenic area, environmental management within the scenic area, community management within the scenic area, integrated integration of various application platforms in the scenic area, and emergency management. In its smart management, it fully applies communication and information technology means such as cloud computing, IoT, big data analysis, and mobile internet, and has built a comprehensive scenic area service platform with a complete data system. This platform intelligently responds to various demands for scenic area management and tourist services by sensing, transmitting, integrating, and analyzing various key information from the core operating system.

However, in its early stages, Jiuzhaigou had fewer innovations and practices in cultural integration. In recent years, Jiuzhaigou has focused on exploring the cultural connotations of the scenic area and promoting its development from a natural landscape type to a cultural tourism integrated scenic area. By broadening the cultural connotations of the scenic area with the development concepts of cultural tourism integration and all-for-one tourism, it is actively exploring regional cultural characteristics.

02 Dongtai Xixi Scenic Area

Dongtai Xixi Scenic Area is located in the western suburbs of Dongtai City, Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, situated by the ancient Salt Transport Canal, with convenient transportation. The digital management practice of this scenic area primarily constructs a closed loop of digital management from three aspects: individual traveler services, group services, and data middleware.

Firstly, relying on the individual traveler service system of the "Tianxian缘" mini-program + "Ticket Sales and Inspection Management System," the scenic area integrates dispersed tourism resources and information. Through the mini-program, tourists can obtain multi-dimensional travel information including "food, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping, and entertainment," greatly enhancing convenience and simplifying the difficulty of customized travel. At the same time, by connecting with OTA platforms, Tianxian缘 Scenic Area breaks down data and service barriers between platforms. Tourists can enter the park through various methods such as facial recognition, ID cards, QR codes, and paper tickets, eliminating concerns about inconvenience caused by platform segregation.

Utilizing the Internet of Everything characteristic of 5G technology, numerous hardware devices in Tianxian缘 Scenic Area, including video surveillance, IP passenger flow integrators, parking gate equipment, tour buses, self-service ticket machines, emergency alarm pillars, and large customer service screens, can all access the scenic area's data middleware, achieving interoperability with mobile phones and emergency command large screens. This enables the scenic area to achieve real-time dynamic supervision of the scenic area through just a mobile phone and a large screen. Through the cooperation between systems, the scenic area can achieve digital management and control such as early prediction, monitoring configuration, real-time monitoring, equipment warning, entry control, alarm response, and command dispatch.

Thanks to the complete construction of the digital management system, Dongtai Xixi·Tianxian缘 Scenic Area now receives over 3 million visitors annually, with a total park revenue exceeding 2 billion yuan. The scenic area's attempt at a "scenery-police integrated smart scenic area" also led to its inclusion in the 2021 Jiangsu Provincial Smart Tourism Scenic Area list.

03 Three Kingdoms Chibi Ancient Battlefield Scenic Area

Previously, the ticket sales channels for the Three Kingdoms Chibi Ancient Battlefield Scenic Area were relatively singular, and service equipment was outdated, making it difficult for service speed to meet the growing demands of tourists. At the same time, a large amount of collected data was "collecting dust," and there was a lack of effective means to enhance the scenic area's popularity and attractiveness.

By comprehensively upgrading its smart construction, the Three Kingdoms Chibi Ancient Battlefield Scenic Area has improved the operational efficiency and service quality of the scenic area: At the front end, it integrates scenic area product resources and service information, building an official scenic area mini-program mall, which not only brings better experiences to tourists and increases stickiness but also provides data support for subsequent refined operations and service optimization; At the back end, it connects with the ticket sales channels of major online travel platforms, with real-time synchronization of backend data. All-channel orders are managed through the system backend, enabling dynamic tracking of all business products and order information, timely understanding of the scenic area's operating status, precise review analysis to gain insights into trends, thereby achieving more flexible and efficient operational management.

04 Fujian Fuzhou Minyue Water Town Scenic Area

After the Fujian Fuzhou Minyue Water Town Scenic Area integrated the digital human guide application, it brought immersive experiences to tourists at 29 interpretation points. Tourists can follow the digital guide to deeply understand the magnificent architecture of the Governor's Mansion and experience the grand historical process in the "Self-Strengthening Movement and Naval Affairs" exhibition area.

Digital technology empowerment has created fresh tourism experiences for citizens and tourists: Before the trip, tourists can not only book multi-person and multi-attraction packages through all channels such as OTAs, new media, and local life service platforms but also obtain travel recommendations and itinerary planning, including transportation, accommodation, and dining, through AI assistants; During the trip, tourists can enjoy a smart experience covering services such as electronic customer service, guide appointments, AR/VR electronic guides, and parking guidance, all with just one mobile phone.

Age-Friendly Digital Cultural Tourism

In the context of an increasingly aging population, the Hulunbuir Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio, and Television actively responded to the national call, implementing the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the national strategy for coping with population aging. Guided by the "Opinions of the General Office of the State Council on Developing the Silver Economy and Enhancing the Well-being of the Elderly" and the "Smart Tourism Innovation and Development Action Plan," it successfully launched the "Hulunbuir at Your Fingertips" mini-program.

The mini program deeply integrates cutting-edge technologies such as big data and AI, creating a simplified interface and operation process tailored for elderly tourists. The mini program uses large fonts and high-contrast design to ensure information is clear and easy to read; it simplifies the navigation structure, reducing the number of jumps, making it easy for elderly tourists to use. Even more noteworthy is the integration of AI voice command functionality; elderly tourists can simply "speak" to obtain tourist information and booking services, enjoying the convenience and fun of smart tourism.

In terms of digital empowerment, the mini program provides convenient channels for complaints and suggestions, ensuring that elderly tourists can promptly provide feedback and receive assistance when encountering problems. At the same time, it pays special attention to the safety needs of elderly tourists, such as one-button rescue and coordinate acquisition functions, safeguarding their safe travel.

In addition, the mini program actively explores the age-friendly application of the metaverse, developing a simplified version of the "Grassland Ancient City" cultural tourism metaverse experience portal, allowing elderly tourists to easily enjoy the fun of virtual tourism. The cultural relics and reading sections use 3D technology to present precious cultural relics and gather a large number of e-books and audiobooks to meet the cultural needs of elderly tourists.

Originally ordinary public telephone booths on the streets of Shanghai have been transformed into "red smart telephone booths." This all-red telephone booth is affectionately called the "Hello Old Friend Booth." The renovated "Hello Old Friend Booth" integrates various high technologies, extending Shanghai's elderly care, assistance, and age-friendly services from homes to communities and public places.

It integrates advanced equipment such as a "one-button car-hailing smart screen" and smart cameras. While providing basic services such as free calls and charging, it also innovatively adds features such as pension inquiries, a 15-minute life circle, and appointment medical consultations, becoming an indispensable "good helper" for the daily lives of the elderly. To date, "Hello Old Friend Booths" cover more than 600 locations across the city.

In addition to standardized services, the homepage also includes street news, digital human broadcasts, and elderly services, providing public service functions while also including information and special services about the Wuliqiao Street. Wireless charging is also available on the side of the machine.

Summary

With the continuous deepening of the integration of culture and tourism, the supply level of cultural tourism products and services will continue to improve. The application of digital technology will reduce the cost of cultural tourism products, achieving convenient services and intelligent management.
In the future, cultural tourism technological innovation will bring broader development space for the industry, promoting the integration of culture and tourism on a wider scale, deeper level, and higher level.
