The Chauvet Cave (Grotte Chauvet) is a cave site located in the Ardèche department of southern France, famous for its rich prehistoric paintings on the cave walls. Some historians believe that the cave paintings can be traced back to 36,000 years ago. The cave paintings were discovered in 1994 and are one of the oldest cave painting sites in the world. It was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on June 22, 2014.

This multi-sensory journey will take people through time and space, back to prehistoric times, using holographic projection, lighting and sound effects, interactive devices and other digital technologies, through twelve interactive points, to tell the creation myth.

Stroll along the path, guided by the lighting installations, and embark on a journey to explore prehistoric civilization. Visitors will become witnesses and participants in this extraordinary journey.

Animal Spirits

As night falls, animal spirits emerge from the cave and appear in various parts of the forest. Visitors encounter them on the path.

Mysterious animal patterns symbolize the ancient humans' worship of nature and animals. Following these patterns, explore the spiritual world of prehistoric humans and gain a deeper understanding of how prehistoric humans established connections with the natural world around them through art and faith.

Understanding the Origin of Everything and the Myth of Creation

With the help of rest stops along the path, video projection animations tell the origin and evolution of the "Emergence" myth, understanding how the myth has been passed down from ancient times to the present, revealing how the local culture interprets the birth of the world.

Paleolithic Camp

Go and Meet the People Living in the Camp

In the Paleolithic camp illuminated by light and shadow, prehistoric humans are making preparations in the tent in the center of the camp. Through the display of light and shadow interaction, visitors can see the living environment of primitive humans and the tools they used, and understand the origin of cave paintings in that era.

The movement of light and shadow, the twisted shadows of the trees, and the surrounding dimness create a mysterious atmosphere.

Towards the Cave

The path to the cave is an immersive passage surrounded by natural sounds and lighting elements. Here, you can hear the sounds of nature—the wind, animal calls, and the echoes of human activities—feel the atmosphere of that era, and then move towards the great artistic creations of prehistoric humans—the cave paintings.

Original Cave

As the core part of the tour, a 10-minute large-scale rock wall MAPPING light and shadow show will be staged on the rock wall outside the cave, interpreting the original "Emergence" creation myth, and the cave paintings will vividly "come alive," emitting the shocking brilliance of ancient art.

The story uses a narrative approach to tell how prehistoric animals and humans originally lived underground, and then, through a cave opening, came to the world above ground, gradually multiplying and thriving.

Shadow Play

Using lighting props and silhouette devices to guide visitors to participate in the creation of cave paintings. The cave paintings projected by silhouettes depict various creatures from the world above and below ground.

Dawn

People gather under a simple tent set up for stargazing, chatting and looking up at the starry sky, feeling the vastness of the universe. The concept of interaction is to immerse visitors in music and nature.

A 13-minute original musical work, created and recorded by musicians, singers and natural sound recordists in the Labalme cave, presents prehistoric human cave paintings through music: from the gentleness of the wild ox, the power of the mammoth, the ferocity of the lion, to the majesty of the cave bear. It is a truly immersive moment, without any other visual distractions, as if traveling back to prehistoric times, feeling the awe of humans at that time for the starry sky and nature.

Original firelight

In order to allow people to better and more deeply understand the historical, cultural and artistic value of the cave paintings, the Chauvet Cave scenic area has also opened up an immersive experience for exploring the replicated cave—the torch guided tour, exploring the world of cavemen from a new perspective.
