On February 12, 2025, Jinjiang International Group announced the signing of a joint venture framework agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences, a world-leading media and entertainment group, to jointly develop the Warner Bros. (Shanghai) Studio Tour – "The Birth of Harry Potter" (hereinafter referred to as "Harry Potter Studio Tour (Shanghai)"). This project is located in Shanghai Jinjiang Amusement Park and is expected to open in 2027. This is the first time the Harry Potter Studio Tour has landed in China. Currently, the joint venture agreement and project launch are still under regulatory approval.

In the indoor area of the park, visitors will embark on a spectacular behind-the-scenes exploration of the film, appreciating the ingenious design and unique ideas of the behind-the-scenes journey, and gaining a deep understanding of the magical world of Harry Potter. Visitors will not only be able to explore the iconic scenes meticulously crafted by the creators of the "Harry Potter" films and view the authentic costumes and props used in the film, but also experience the scenes in the film through novel and interesting interactive devices, revealing how the globally popular novel series came to life on the big screen.
The Harry Potter Studio Tour (Shanghai) is expected to cover an area of approximately 53,000 square meters, including indoor and outdoor areas. The entire visitor tour will take about half a day. In addition, a landscape park will be carefully prepared at the entrance of the project as a recreational area for visitors and the general public.
As Shanghai's first large-scale professional amusement park, Shanghai Jinjiang Amusement Park has been a cherished memory and well-known tourism brand for Shanghai residents. With the development of the city, Shanghai Jinjiang Amusement Park has moved from its original suburban location to the main urban area of Minhang District, and its facilities can no longer meet the new needs of visitors. In recent years, Jinjiang International Group has leveraged its advantages in the full tourism industry chain, integrating hotels, tourism, passenger transport, catering, and urban services, and has been actively planning the upgrading and transformation of Shanghai Jinjiang Amusement Park with a "three-pronged approach".
First, classic projects will be upgraded and renewed, preserving Shanghai's urban memory. The Shanghai Ferris Wheel, built in 2002, has become the most representative amusement project of Jinjiang Amusement Park. This park upgrade will update and rebuild it, continuing to carry the beautiful memories of generations of Shanghai people.
Second, combining national brands with international IPs to create a new landmark for Shanghai's cultural tourism. The transformation of Shanghai Jinjiang Amusement Park this time introduces the internationally renowned IP Harry Potter, which will strongly activate the brand value of Jinjiang Amusement Park, precisely releasing consumer vitality, making it a landmark project attracting fans and movie fans from across the country and even the world, becoming a new hit in domestic tourism experiences and a new highlight of Shanghai's cultural tourism.
Third, integrating cultural tourism and sharing with the public to create a new space for citizens' leisure. The upgrading and transformation plan of Shanghai Jinjiang Amusement Park, including the development of the Harry Potter Studio Tour (Shanghai), the construction of the accompanying landscape park, and the renewal and reconstruction of the Ferris wheel, will become a good place for citizens' daily leisure and entertainment, while retaining the attributes of a classic urban amusement park in the central city, creating a new scene of cultural tourism consumption shared by both residents and visitors.

Shanghai Jinjiang Amusement Park temporarily closed on January 26, 2025, and is expected to complete its upgrading and transformation work and reopen in 2027.
Project Extension
Located between the inner and outer ring roads of Minhang District, Shanghai Jinjiang Amusement Park was built in 1984, covering an area of 103,000 square meters and featuring more than 30 large-scale amusement facilities. It was the first large-scale amusement park in Shanghai to introduce foreign amusement facilities after the reform and opening up. Its iconic building, the "Shanghai Ferris Wheel," as the first Ferris wheel in China exceeding 100 meters, has been an iconic building of the park and a landmark landscape in southwestern Shanghai since its completion in 2002.
The Harry Potter Studio Tour (Shanghai) is the first such project in China and the third in the world. Judging from the two Harry Potter Studio Tour projects that have already been built and opened in London, UK, and Tokyo, Japan, the iconic scenes in the film, such as the Hogwarts Express, the hall where teachers and students of the magic school check in every day, Dumbledore's office, and the automatically stirring potion jars in the Potions classroom, are highly restored, and visitors can also interact with props such as the suspended flying broomstick. Chinese tourists who have visited the London project said that the immersive experience was "enough to make Harry Potter fans stop and scream."
This transformation and upgrading of Shanghai Jinjiang Amusement Park is based on the positioning of "preserving historical memory, introducing high-quality IPs, and creating a people-friendly space" It includes the development of the Harry Potter Studio Tour (Shanghai), the construction of an accompanying landscape park, and the renewal and reconstruction of the Ferris wheel. The Tokyo Harry Potter theme park officially opened on June 16, 2023, The Tokyo Harry Potter theme park is built on the site of the Toshimaen, which closed in 2020.
"Studio Tour Tokyo Express" train started operating in May 2023. The body of the train is based on the "Forbidden Forest" appearing in the movie, with the three main characters Harry, Hermione, and Ron painted on the side.
The park is divided into two areas: the indoor "Sound Stage" and the outdoor shooting "Backlot." It covers an area of approximately 90,000 square meters, with facilities covering approximately 30,000 square meters.
While Universal Studios Japan also has a Harry Potter area, the focus is different. Universal Studios Japan mainly features ride-type attractions, while the Tokyo Harry Potter theme park focuses on immersive experiences recreating scenes from the films. To allow visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Harry Potter films, the pillars in the station were painted red to match the style of the Harry Potter films.
The walls of Ikebukuro Station have also been redesigned, with the exterior walls of the elevators featuring Harry Potter-style stained glass.
Many magical creature statues from the films are specially placed at the entrance to the park. The park is also meticulously decorated. The art props, lighting, sound, prop models, and clothing displays perfectly replicate the appearance of the film set,

Like the Harry Potter area at Universal Studios Japan, the park also has themed restaurants with magical elements, offering traditional British cuisine and limited-edition dishes.
